Do you enjoy starting something new but find all your other responsibilities and commitments stop you from making the progress you desire ?How would you like to learn a very simple technique for taking simple daily actions that will create massive results ? How did I take my dream of writing a book and turn it into 130 pages in 6 weeks ? How have I continued to learn Chinese whilst working a busy job and overcoming my belief that ‘I am a mathematician and I am not good at languages’. How have I changed my diet, improved my exercise and control led the amount of chocolate I eat ? Easy, by taking one Simple Step TM every day ! Here is how it works ! To write my book I set myself a target of writing ONE word every day for 5 out of 7 days ! Yes, only one word, any word, with no judgment of the meaning of the word, no beating myself up on how good my book is or what my readers will think and giving myself permission to choose if I want to publish it. I just wanted to write a book and if it inspired one other person to start to write their own book then I would be very happy. My outcome: somedays I would write 10 words, other days I wrote 200 words. Some days I was excited to write, other days I did not want to write or I was too busy. But, because it was so simple I always wrote ‘one word’ and always felt a sense of achievement and satisfaction. The result, my first book, a great big smile on my face and a whole bunch of other ideas to inspire and share with other people. One of which was the birth of THE Simple Steps TM FOUNDATION . How did I achieve my dream ? By creating a new Habit ! The most difficult step of any action is the first step ! We all do many things to put of f taking the first action of a new idea. We fight ourselves and ask many questions in our minds ! We beat ourselves up and because we see other people achieving what we want we create a belief that we are just not able to do it ! Why ? because of our natural fear of failure or not being good enough. When I started my book my main fears were : do I have time, it will take a long time, what do I write about, what if I can not think of anything interesting, what if I do not finish what I start, what if people think it is no t good. Very normal and natural fears that we all have when taking a risk and starting something new !! So what were my options to write a book. Option 1, set a great big goal, summari se s my idea in one week, summary of main chapters one week, followed by writing 1 page per day, 1 chapter per week, finish in three months !! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!! I guess if I had committed my drive or explosive power I could do this but I would have had to leave all my other activities, relationships and goals at the side 3 months !! And what if I did not achieve my goal, how would it have effected my belief and self-esteem ? Okay, option 2. Make it easy, make it a habit, make myself feel good for achieving the goal and see what happens. Don’t get me wrong, option 1 has its place when big action needs to be taken fast, but for long term and contin uous change I choose option 2. How can you start ? You need to set ‘One’ simple easy step on a regular time scale (I often use 5 out of 7 days). It must be easy so that you can do it under any circumstance or excuse. You must be clear that your intention is only to complete this one simple step and anything else is a bonus ! Do not beat yourself up thinking it is silly and not good enough. You will feel a great sense of satisfaction and you will often be motivated to do much more. Just think how many habits you already have ! Do you drive to work the same way every day ! Do you get out of bed the same time every day and wake up before your alarm clock. How often do you sit down to watch the same TV program each week. They are all habits that you have created, that you do every day, often for a long periods of time. Many of the things you have already achieved have come from your good habits. So how about creating some more positive and powerful habits and going for a goal or dream that you have !!! Finally ! How can THE Simple Steps TM FOUNDATION help you and how can you help others ?
